Know exactly what to save — and exactly when you can retire.

A planner that actually covers how UK retirement works
Solve for your number
Tell Penli the retirement income you want and it works out the minimum contribution to get you there — or shows you the gap if your current plan falls short.
Built for couples
Pool your household target, share a bridge pot, and balance contributions between partners — a household planning together can be meaningfully more tax-efficient than two people planning apart.
Bridge the early years
Retiring before you can access your pension? Penli models the savings bridge that gets you there, and tells you exactly how much to save each month.
A full income timeline
See every pound of retirement income mapped out year by year — pension, State Pension, bridge savings and other income — plotted through to the age your pot needs to last.
Drill into every number
Click any year for a full breakdown: which tax band every pound landed in, split by partner, tax-free cash versus taxable withdrawals.
No lookups required
Your private pension access age and State Pension age are worked out automatically from your date of birth — no need to go and look them up.
Plan for real life
Model one-off costs — a wedding, a new car, a renovation — plus tax-free lump sum withdrawals, and see exactly how they land on your plan.
Mortgage-aware
Tell Penli when your mortgage ends and your target income steps down automatically from that date — no manual re-working of the numbers.
Try before you commit
Preview a different contribution rate, retirement age or target income and see the outcome before you commit to it.
Defined Benefit pensions
Have an NHS, Teachers, LGPS or Civil Service pension alongside your main pot? Add it in and Penli projects its own annual income, folds it into your take-home pay and tax, and shows it on your timeline.
Frequently asked questions
How does Penli work out my minimum pension contribution?
Tell Penli your target retirement income and it works backwards to find the lowest employee contribution percentage that gets your pension, any bridge savings, and your State Pension to fully fund it. You can always contribute more than the minimum — the plan just shows you the floor.
What is a bridge pot?
A bridge pot is savings held outside your pension — cash, an ISA, and so on — used to fund your income in the years after you retire but before you can access your pension. Penli works out exactly how much you'd need to save each month to cover that gap.
Can couples plan together in Penli?
Yes. Couple mode pools a household's target income, shares one bridge pot, and balances contributions between partners — planning together like this can be meaningfully more tax-efficient than two people planning in isolation.
Does Penli support Defined Benefit pensions like NHS, Teachers, LGPS or Civil Service?
Yes, as a beta feature. Penli models each scheme's own accrual rate, revaluation, actuarial early-retirement reduction and contribution tiers, and folds the resulting DB pension into your overall take-home pay, tax, and year-by-year income timeline alongside your main Defined Contribution pot.
Is Penli free to use?
Yes, Penli is free to try with no account needed. Creating a free account lets you save your plan and come back to it later.
